Planned events:

+++++++

Thursday 17th January we will be meeting at Quoys at 7pm for our first event of this year. Angela Manson and Pauline Wiseman are coming along to entertain us with some tunes on the fiddle during the evening. Moira Bell will also give us a short presentation on the work of the Royal Voluntary Services and have information available for us about the services they can provide in Shetland. Supper will be provided with tea/coffee and homebakes after that.

+++++++

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland
CHSS have sent us some Christmas card catalogues and are offering us the chance to raise funds for the group through ordering cards and other items from them. If you want to look at a catalogue please let us know. The cards are also available online at www.chss.org.uk  but we will only get commission on orders placed directly through the support group, so contact Joy on 01595 696 491 for more details.

+++++++

Yoga classes
Disability Shetland have been running a Yoga class for a number of years attended by people who have various health conditions. They have contacted us to see if anyone from the stroke support group would be interested in going along. The class is held on Tuesday mornings from 10am to 11am in Market House, the next block starts on the 18th September.  A lot of the movements are done sitting in a chair and some are done while standing, for those who are able, they also do some exercises on the floor but these can be modified for sitting as well. A few years ago a DVD called “Stretch and Breathe” was released in aid of Disability Shetland and we used it a couple of times at events at Quoys, it gives an idea of what the sessions are like.

+++++++

Market House Carers Group at Fjara

Self Help for Stroke website
Selfhelp4stroke is a free self management website for anyone who has had a stroke, and can be found at www.Selfhelp4stroke.org. This is a free resource and the information is displayed in video, audio and interactive formats. Many of the resources are also downloadable.
